You already know who can help you maintain it to ensure that it works just how what it was designed to work!

How Heat Pump is Designed to Work

Unlike other kinds of heating and cooling systems, heat pumps warm up or cool down space by transferring heat, rather than burning fuel. During the summer heat pumps pull heat from the inside of your home and move it outside to make your home cooler. In the wintertime, this process is reversed, and warmed air is moved from the outside to warm up your home. The whole system works by using coils that contain very cold liquid refrigerant. As air passes through these coils, and gets either warmed or cooled. On top of that, passing air is being dehumidified, meaning the humidity level in your home goes down.

How Do You Know that Your Heat Pump is Not Working Correctly?

If you already have a heat pump, you need to make sure to maintain it regularly but even then, eventually you will need to repair it at some point. Just like any system in your home, heat pump gets wear and tear from continuous use. There are a few things to look out for that can signal a problem with your heat pump.

Signs that you might need heat pump repairs include:

  • A unit that is making strange noises

  • Insufficient heating or cooling

  • A heat pump that won’t turn on or off

  • Development of ice on or near the unit

  • Reduced energy efficiency/increased bills

  • Unusual cycling, both too frequent and infrequent

  • A heat pump that is older than 15 years
